Correcting Errors in Your Tree

FamilySearch is a collaborative tree, so errors can happen. Here's how to fix them:

Editing Basic Information

1. Click on the person to open their profile
2. Click "Edit" or the pencil icon
3. Make your correction
4. Add a reason for the change (important!)
5. Click Save

Adding Sources

When you correct information, always add a source to support your change. This helps prevent others from changing it back incorrectly.

Fixing Relationships

If someone is connected to the wrong parents or spouse:

1. Open the person's profile
2. Click "Details" under the relationship
3. Click "Remove or Replace" to correct it

Best Practices

• Always add a reason explaining your change
• Attach sources that prove the correct information
• If unsure, discuss with other contributors first
